    52Frames 2022 - Week 24: Shoot From Above

“ Keeping Cool ” I have a condo on the 4th floor and while my view looking outward is beauty and nature with the creek and the wildlife, but if I look straight down and slightly left from my balcony I see 12 of the 48 air conditioners for the building. They used to all be uniform when the building was newer, but as the building has aged, a few of my neighbors have replaced the old with the new giving some variety to the view straight down. I had one other photo that I took t

    52Frames 2022 - Week 23: Triangular Composition

“ Ocean Swimming ” I was traveling this weekend and decided I'd try and grab some triangular composition shots while people watching. I'm not sure this is my favorite but it was my group's favorite. I'll post my other attempts on my blog this week and would love greater feedback. I think a lot of people struggled with this challenge, but we can all help each other with more feedback. I really did enjoy people watching though from my balcony at the hotel. Plus listening to the

“ After the Storm ” We had a fairly serious storm this week with considerable hail and 2 inches of rain in less than 30 minutes. As president of the association, I went out to survey the damage as soon as the lightning stopped. Considering the flooding of one of our fire stairwells and our parking garage, the back of the building brought this pretty sunset scene. It was a very busy week with house remodeling and preparing for the annual owners meeting, so photography options

    52Frames 2022 - Week 21: Inspired By a Photographer

“ Going Home from the Corner Market ” I used the generator on Monday to get Mary Ellen Mark, American Photographer. She was quite diverse in her work, but everything I looked at was black & white, so I did my choices in BW. I was most drawn to her street photography & trying to capture some raw spontaneous moments. I tried to get out to photograph all week, but at 8pm on Sunday night I finally did! I captured this photo while driving to the wharf where I thought I might get a

    52Frames 2022 - Week 20: Abstract

“ Adamski Obligation ” I've taken a lot of photos of this little boat that is docked outside my place. It's cute on its own, but I thought I would learn how to apply Adamski effect using it this week (extra challenge part). Honestly, I wasn't planning on it being my submission, but it's the best of the photos I've taken so far. (It's Friday, so maybe something will come up.) The sky was perfect that day and the lighting for the algae on the pilings and the height of the tide

    52Frames 2022 - Week 19: Architecture

“ Mid-Century Modern Staircase ” I really love architecture and unfortunately had little opportunity to go some place with really interesting buildings. I did however get to go to my local county government building for the first time and noticed this staircase. It's seriously the classic MCM 1960s staircase. The blue and brown paint - the tiles, and the tinted glass under the rails. It totally reminded me of the courthouse my mom worked in in the 1980s. Brought back memories

“ Where Did I come From and Where Am I Going? ” Recently I've been paying attention to genealogy; reading the history family members have compiled. There's a little controversy as to France or Italy on my dad's side (it depended upon which battle was most recent.) There's even more intrigue as to where the family was before then. The book in the photo has my dad's family going back through one line definitively through 1811 w/other documents & references to 200BC. Both patern

“ Fiona Goes to Washington! ” Fiona seemed right at home this week when I took her to DC. She had people from opposite sides of the aisle petting her & talking to her & each other in the elevators & hallways. She might have been a little mouthy to the K9 officers though, & she'll have to work on that next time. She also really enjoyed walking up to the Capitol on a cool, but extremely sunny day. I can't tell you how many times I have walked around the Capitol in the past 7 ye

“ Harbor at Night ” I love where I live and I love my nightly walks with the dog. These little lamps line the bulkhead and light our path each night. When the wind isn't too cold, we can truly enjoy the light and the view. Thankfully the wind finally died down this week and with some warmer days, the late night walks have been very pleasant. I don't think I'll ever get tired of this view. #lamp #harbor #NicoleBeusHarris #NDBHphotography #CambridgeCreek #PierAtNight #Dockside

"Oregano" My friends & small group people will be surprised with my submission this week because none of them saw this photo. HAHA! I had some other photos I was debating between, when with less than 4 hours to go - I decided to hit up my oregano plant with a flashlight in the dark! This is not a macro photo (I've been searching for my bag with my various lenses for over 6 weeks now - ugh!) While it isn't filling the whole frame considering the true size of the leaf is less t

“ I ❤️ Orchards! ” It was a rainy, windy week around home this week, at least it was for any time I was available to go for a nature walk. So I settled for something close to the old house. On Saturday I returned to the house we're trying to downsize away from & the pear trees are in full bloom. I will really miss our little orchard of apple & pear trees when we fully move. I grew up surrounded by almond orchards & now my fruit trees are the best part of spring at the house.

    52Frames 2022 - Week 13: Emotion

“ Tá brón orm ” tá brón orm (Irish) Origin & history Literally ‘sorrow is on me’ On Monday a friend of mine posted on Facebook this Irish phrase & a little explanation of it. The gist of it stuck with me all week: Sorrow or sadness is "on me" versus "I am sad." The difference in identifying yourself as the emotion, vs the emotion being on you for a time, is kind of a big deal. The fleetingness of emotion in this sense can kind of change one's thinking about themselves. Perha

“ Light Trombones ” This week I had no concept of what I wanted to do other than try some light painting. I will admit that most of my attempts were big flops, but then I had some interesting arcs and straight lines of color. This one is not what I attempted, but I find the abstract trombone shapes interesting. At least they remind me of trombones. Every once in a while you just have to let go of any ideas and just fly to learn something new. For reference this is a series o

“ New Construction ” So they've been expanding my neighborhood after a 12 year hiatus. It's kind of a pain, but also entertaining to watch as I take my dog for a walk during the day. This week was roofing week - or should I say it was roofing day because they did 5 townhomes in one day. I had to take several photos to get a decent shot since they were moving, I was zoomed in, and I had the dog leash in my other hand - but I like the framing of this one. ("Framing" ... get it?

“Ode to Our Ancestors (Photography Ancestors)” Can you imagine trying to accomplish the 52Frames challenge of the week with equipment like this? I can't. Imagine how much greater the great photographers were than we are today, because they accomplished amazing photographs that we still reference 50, 75, or even more than 100 years ago. Furthermore, put yourself in the shoes of the first photographers & how they must have jumped with joy when their photo was as they imagined i

“ Green Swirls ” It's amazing what you can get with a little water and food coloring - especially old food coloring where the dried flakes fall in rather than a drop. Green is the color of spring to me and I'm longing for spring right now. I had hoped to take some reflective photos at the marsh but the wind was too strong on the day I had time to drive and hike. I took some photo ball photos as a just in case placeholder but then on Sunday I thought about playing around with

“ Left or Right? ” I went for a Sunday drive (yes, I procrastinated this week) and told myself I would only take unknown roads. I told myself to only go down a road once (unless it ended up being a dead end) so I had to be observant on the first and only pass. This abandoned building was at a fork in the scenic byway. I didn't see a sign saying what it was in the past, but the windows were boarded up. It could have been a church or a school because it resembles the architectu

When Condiments Go Bad! You MUST-A-(hea)RD... condiments can go bad. It may be rare, but KETCH-UP with the news! When it's dark and quiet in the middle of the night the show downs begin. We should have realized it, but the rivalry is thick between the primary members - Mustard and Ketchup. On one dark and stormy night this week I captured the battle between them and while Mustard was thicker and slower he came out from the shadows and "Hunt"ed for the battle win. RIP dear Ket

"Hiding in the Reeds" I love black & white photography and if you look at my account you'll see black & white fairly often, but this week I wasn't truly motivated. I took photos all week of everything I saw on my walks in the cold and then I finally had an idea on Sunday and went out to take photos of historic Cambridge. So why are you seeing a heron and not historic Cambridge? I put up my favorite photos from this week and my small group loved this photo the most. This photo

“ The Seagull Stands Alone ” I had a lot of fun documenting the iced over creek this week. I tried to capture it at different times of day and with different cloud/sun/moon lighting. This was an overcast day, one of the colder days of the week when the ice was thicker - not that it has to be very thick for the seagulls to stand and walk across the creek. Even the geese did a lot of walking rather than swimming this week. I took a lot of photos this week for my own documentati
